I have done Bachelors in Aviation Management, What’s Next?
It is somehow easy to decide
which academic filed to join after 12th grade. But once you decide
and you are in your bachelor's degree program, most of the time, you have to
stick with it. It is the base on which your profession builds. So chose your
field carefully and most importantly, “timely”!
“What to do after getting my
bachelor's degree?” This is the question that has been in the mind of students who are doing BS. Aviation Management. Here you will find some of the
many answers that can solve this dilemma of students.
Start Up!
No matter which field you select,
you have to start from somewhere. Same is the case with aviation. But the
question is from where to start especially with the present industry condition
of the country?
In every industry you need
experience to get your dream designation. The more experience you have, the
more you become eligible for a good position. Again the question is how to get
experience?
In every ad for a good job, experience is required. Same is the case with aviation related job ads. But the
question is if you don’t have any experience then how can you get a job that requires
years of experience as its eligibility criteria?
First let us review some job ads
to better understand what should be the plan of action. Here is the list of
some job ads though they are expire yet they will give you a quick overview
about the importance of “experience” and “correct educational background” you
need.
Decision; Education & experience
After
browsing through the above given ads, one thing is clear that to get a good job
you need many years of experience. If you don’t have so many years of
experience in the field of aviation then make sure you have some extra ordinary
educational background related to the job you are applying for.
Surely, after
doing "just" BS. Aviation Management you cannot get a good job but after doing
bachelors in aviation management with some years of experience you would be
eligible for a good position.
Here is another
option. But to get that option you need to be well aware of the field and
skills you are good at. You need to know which of the business functions
matches your taste i.e. either you are good in management, marketing, planning,
finance or HR etc. Get your Master degree in any specialized filed. To make
yourself even more eligible for managerial positions, get your M.Phil or PhD
degree. But on your way to get higher degrees you need to be working for the
aviation related organizations. It will count towards your industry experience.
Be specific in your job because if you have the vision to be at a managerial
position in the future, you need to get managerial level experience. In this
way, with four or five years of experience you would be eligible for the job
that needs 15 years of experience otherwise. So the punch line is clear, to get
your dream job, either you have so many years of experience or a few more years
of education after BS. Aviation Management with few years of “related”
experience.
When aviation management degree becomes the “SECOND” most important thing in your CV after FOOL
Talking about to
get initial experience; all those who cannot get a chance to work in the
managerial level can do something like this.
They can work towards getting Flight Operations Officer’s License (FOOL). At first, it seems you have distracted from your actual path but at least in this way you can get hands on experience of what is actually going on in aviation industry. And if you like to work as FOO then stick with it because it also pays off well but for that you have to work in airline's hubs. This is the whole different scenario because in this case your aviation management degree becomes the “second” most important thing in your CV after FOOL.

Teaching, it pays off well in aviation industry
In aviation,
teaching at the university level pays off well. Not many of the readers would
know that in the countries like Pakistan there is a big gap in this area. In almost all aviation related institutions, not
many of the instructors are
professional teachers. In fact, they are related to aviation somehow i.e. either
they are commercial pilots or retired air force fighter pilots. They are teaching
because they have average 15 years of experience in their specified fields. But
you need to believe that aviation is much more than just flying.
During your four
years degree program in aviation management, other than a very few, almost all
of the instructors teach you the pure business subjects like marketing,
finance, HR etc. without even a slight touch of aviation. So be one of the few
in this country who actually knows about aviation and is specialized in any of
the business functions. If you can deliver what you have in a good manner then
this is somehow an easy way to earn and to stay updated unless you find an even
more attractive job or you fully develop yourself as a professor.
Increased working hours and minor salary package?
Do what you have
to do and find some place in the industry. “Initially”, it does not matter if
you have to work many hours a week on minor salary package. The important thing
is what you have learnt. If you can make your mind to this level then here is
the list of CAA approved ground handling agencies that can provide you the
initial experience with lot of learning capacity and can be your way to enter
into the practical field of aviation.
